High pressure die casting (HPDC)
At Alteams, we provide unmatched expertise in High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) and aluminium die casting solutions from our global facilities: Finland (Laihia), Poland (Lebork), China (Suzhou), and through our joint venture Ashley Alteams in India (Chennai). With 50 HPDC machines ranging from 260 to 3300 tons, we support everything from compact precision parts to large, structurally demanding components.
What is HPDC?
High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) is a manufacturing process used to produce complex metal parts with high precision, excellent surface finish, and dimensional accuracy.
In the HPDC process, molten aluminium is injected into a steel mould under high pressure. Once the metal solidifies, the casting is ejected, excess material is trimmed away, and the finished part receives a final visual inspection.
It is one of the most widely used methods for making lightweight components, especially in industries like automotive, and electronics.

When is HPDC used?
-
High-volume production → When you need thousands or hundreds of thousands of identical parts.
-
Complex shapes → When the design has thin walls, intricate details, or shapes that are difficult to machine.
-
Lightweight parts → Common in industries like automotive reducing weight is critical.
-
Good surface finish required → When parts must look smooth or need minimal machining after casting.

Why is HPDC used?
- Accuracy & Consistency → Parts come out very precise and repeatable.
- Excellent surface finish and dimensional accuracy→ Reduces or eliminates the need for machining.
- Strength in thin sections → High pressure fills the die completely, even for thin-walled designs.
- Speed & Efficiency → Very fast cycle times compared to sand casting or gravity casting.
- Cost-effective at scale → Although the die tooling is expensive, it becomes economical when producing large volumes.

Where is HPDC used?
- Automotive: engine blocks, transmission housings →lightweight and mass-produced.
- Electronics: frequency converters, e-mobility parts, DC/AC converter → thin, detailed, and smooth.
- Telecom: Housing with cooling fins and covers.
